Well, I've heard people say "grand-aunt" but that just sounds weird to me. In our family, we refer to it as a great aunt.
I've been an aunt since I was 12 and a great aunt since I was 32. I have a lot of experience so we figure that I'm GREAT at it.
Plus it makes my nieces giggle when I call them my GREAT nieces.

I never heard of grand aunt either. You are a great-aunt, age has nothing to do with it. My sister's children have children and I am their great-aunt.

You are a great aunt by my family's definition. I've never heard the term grand aunt.

I'd say 'Great Aunt' as well.
My nephew has just announced that he and his DGF are expecting. I told him that he might be old enough to reproduce but he wasn't too old to avoid going over my knee if he ever calls me a 'Great Aunt' again
Feels kind of funny as my Great-Aunt has always been old and grey in my eyes!

You're a great aunt...age has nothing to do with it. I became a great aunt at the ripe old age of 22...

You're not just a great aunt, you're a FABULOUS aunt!
-says the aunt of a niece old enough to now have children. If she has kids before I do, I'll shoot her.

I googled it. They're the same thing. It's in various dictionaries.
Personally, I'd say great aunt.

They are the same thing, although great aunt is used more commonly than grand aunt.
Personally, I will prefer being called great aunt when my niece or nephews have children.

Yep, great aunt and grand aunt are the same thing. Don't worry about the age thing, though. I've been a great aunt since I was 23 years old.

Yes, you are. When I had my first, I told my aunt that she had always been a Great Aunt, but now she had the official title.
She's just "Auntie May" to the kids, though. No "great" anything.

I was an Aunt before I was born and a Great Aunt before I was a Mom.
I don't like the term "Grand Aunt". Sounds too much like "Grandmother" to me!

My great nieces and nephews all call me Aunt Michelle. My nieces and nephews are so close to my own age, the oldest being born when I was 7, and the youngest when I was 13, that they just call me by my first name. My kids get a little confused sometimes that their cousins are adults and their cousins children are the ones who are their age.

Aunt, great-aunt, whatever -- none of these terms have anything whatsoever to do with age!
For example, one of my daughter's friends has two much-older brothers, and she's been an aunt since she was one year old. Being an oldest child, I wasn't an aunt until I was 27 years old (and I wanted to be one so badly!). Likewise, I know a few people my age who've married older men, and they've become grandmothers in their late 30s, early 40s! Wow! They could potentially become great-grandmothers around the time I become a grandmother!
I knew someone who was an aunt before she was born, and was a great aunt when she was around 22! Her mother had another child when she was already a grandmother, so my friend had a niece who was a year older than she.
And I was a Great- Aunt before I was a mother myself; my niece had a baby before I did.
So age definitely has nothing to do with it.
